Strategic Enterprise Plan

Design Research Aim
  • -       To determine how programmatic entrepreneurialism can generate new forms of spatial value in the economy.

Mission
(The motivations that drive the enterprise)
  • -      Increase awareness and appreciation of the value of good design, especially in architecture.
  • -       Facilitate networking opportunities with various industries (not specifically design or architecture related) for future collaborations and exposure of the architecture profession.

Project Objectives
(Things the project will produce which we can operate to achieve our mission)
  • -       The project will house mixed used-mixed time programs, creating an intense space, which will be activated for 24 hours.
  • -       The project will provide rich spaces for social interaction allowing users to collectively create visions/ solutions.
  • -       The project will expose good design to the wider community.
  • -       The project will be a non-conventional mobile design solution (pod).
  • -       The project will allow users the opportunity to interact and contribute to the space.
  • -       The project will facilitate surrounding events.

The Project:
(What is the project that can achieve the above objectives)

The facility:
  • - Multiple modular pod system, which can facilitate various programs.

The purpose:
  • -       To create a cheap, high-design mobile events pod that allows the CitySwitch Lab to host programs that generate income.
  • -       To provide clients with an affordable rentable mobile space which can be customised to facilitate a variety of programs.

The benefit:
  • -       The pod system can activate dead spaces and generate vibrancy on campus or in the city through the use of multiple programs throughout the day.
  • -       The changing configurations and programs that the pods facilitate enable a dynamic pulse of change in a static environment.
  • -       The flexibility of the pods can be an instigator of new types of program to emerge.
  • -       Users are provided with easily accessible and affordable temporal space.
  • -       The adaptability for multiple programs provides the opportunity for high profit return on a per hour basis.
  • -       The highly adaptable, well-designed pods will generate appreciation and awareness for good design amongst users.
  • -       The ease of mobility will enable the pods to be continually sustained and ongoing project transferred to different contexts.

The methods:
  • -       To design sustainably by repurposing technology and materials.
  • -       To design and implement a series of programs that occur in and around the pod.
  • -       Generate publicity.
  • -       Establish a sense of ownership amongst users.
  • -       To establish enterprise which will be ongoing and sustained.

Scope of Work
(Goal orientated deliverables to enable the project to be realised)
  • -       To develop project concept to identify target users and demographics.
  • -       To identify range of programs or functions which the pods can facilitate.
  • -       Analyse a selection of potential sites.
  • -       Undertake SWOT analysis. Determine project feasibility.
  • -       To negotiate with concerned authorities, stakeholders and understand legal responsibilities.
  • -       Identify risks and mitigation strategies.
  • -       To develop a brand identity/ logo/ name/ image/ aesthetic.
  • -       Project design concept options.
  • -       Establish industry and network connections/ sponsorship.
  • -       Establish clear cost breakdown/ profit margins.
  • -       Detailed construction design.
  • -       Cost and source materials/ equipment.
  • -       Construct project.
  • -       Manage and facilitate an industry event series relating to the project and overall mission.
  • -       Trial implementation of project.
  • -       Reflection and critique of implementation, lessons learned.
  • -       Final improved implementation of project.
  • -       Edit documentation, final product memorabilia.
