PATCHWORKS EVENT #2

OVERALL AIM & INFORMATION

The aim of patchworks is to research and implement the concept of ‘social architecture’ by designing program, which can facilitate space, and time designed conversation between participants. The overall concept of program should be able to be translated to different sites for testing.

Site specifically, the aim is to design program, which allows Patchworks to utilise the benefits of a private space with access to a kitchen, toilet, electricity and water. We can house approximately 36 people (18 patchworks members + 18 guests) in the space.

The event will be held on Friday 22nd October at 6pm at Anastasia’s aunts house (please inform address).

Participants: Architectural Designers

Previously discussed programmatic options for the space are the following, which need to be further investigated and designed:

Food- applying the creative science of cooking & collaborating to architectural participants (as architecture like cooking is a creative science).

Lighting- using lighting techniques to generate mood, projections and further stimulate interaction. (Dinner in the dark, ceiling cinema).

Time & Space- incorporating an element of time based program the in space such that guests participate in a pre planned programmatic journey through the space (similar to the opportunities presented by the travelator). Although in a domestic setting where there is no predetermined movement pattern, designing the space time factor of the program will make it ‘social architecture’ and hence distinctly different from having a dinner party and watching a movie at a friend’s house.

MARKETING for PATCHWORKS EVENT #2

Friday 8th October- Marketing sent to guests.

Tuesday 5th October- Design Marketing concept & present to class.

§ Brainstorm options for aesthetic, event name and logo. Although the program is not 100% defined yet allow the above mentioned programatic parameters (food, lighting, time & space) can be inspiration. (Ophelia, Nicky,Tristan)

§ Design a map for Anastasia Aunts with directions on how to get there. (Linette, Tristan)

§ Determine marketing strategy for event. (Email, facebook etc) (Anastasia).

Friday 8th October- Event sponsorship

§ Find sources for event sponsorship- ie food, architecture firms, lighting companies. Present options to class on Tuesday (Anastasia, Mike)

§ Create sponsorship document and contact possible sponsors. (Anastasia, Mike)

DESIGN for PATCHWORKS EVENT # 2

Tuesday 5th October- Design programmatic concept & present to class.

§ Based on discussions we had on Friday and the above brief, prepare a series of sketches, diagrams, plans, timlines etc of the programmatic concept for the event. (Tristan, Euckan, Jason)

§ Anybody in the class with ideas for program, please contact Tristan, Euckan or Jason to so they can incorporate/ consider it.

PROJECT MANAGMENT for PATCHWORKS EVENT #2

Tuesday 5th October- Identify possible risks and mitigation strategies.

§ Based on the programmatic parameters described above, ie. Cooking hazard, damage to property etc. identify any possible risks that can occur and mitigation strategies.
